Current status: Closed
This consultation asked for feedback on amendments proposed to the Applications for Authorization under Paragraph 35(2)(b) of the Fisheries Act Regulations.
Who was the focus of this consultation
This consultation sought comments from:
- Indigenous peoples
- governments, including:
- municipal
- provincial
- territorial
- the Canadian public
- other interested people
Purpose of feedback
Bill C-68, intended to amend the Fisheries Act and other related acts, was tabled on February 6, 2018. It proposed the restoration of lost protections and introduction of new ones to:
- better protect fish and fish habitat
- increase the sustainability of Canadian fisheries
Therefore, we must be prepared to make regulatory changes to ensure alignment with the new Fisheries Act when these changes receive Royal Assent. This includes updating the existing Applications for Authorization Regulations when the proposed changes come into force.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada is proposing amendments to these regulations. We need your feedback to help us develop new policies and regulations that are based on your expertise and interests.
Discussion questions
Send us your thoughts on the topics we presented in our consultation paper. This paper looks at our proposed approach to a key regulation under the fish and fish habitat provisions of the Fisheries Act.
We’ll use your comments to refine the proposed amendments to the Applications for Authorization Regulations. These will then be pre-published in Part I of the Canada Gazette as draft regulations for another public comments period.
