2017 Inshore Scallop Fishery in the Bay of Fundy – Scallop Production Areas (SPAs) 1-6

The Maritimes Region Inshore Scallop Fishery within the Bay of Fundy occurs in Scallop Fishing Areas 28A, 28B, 28C, and 28D, as defined within the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985 (Schedule XV). For science assessment and fishery management purposes, Scallop Production Areas (SPAs) have been defined within licence conditions.

Dates of season (subject to change)

The 2016-17 Inshore Scallop fishing season in the Bay of Fundy operates from October 1st – September 30th. There are variations in the active season between the fleets and between the Scallop Production Areas (SPAs). These differences are captured in Conservation Harvesting Plans and variation orders.

Total Allowable Catches

2016/17:

SPA 1A: 400t
SPA 1B: 480t
SPA 2: The fishery in SPA 2 is not regulated by a Total Allowable Catch.
SPA 3: 175t
SPAs 4 & 5: 200t. As has been the case since 2014, SPAs 4 and 5 are managed as one quota area.
SPA 6: 220t

2017/18 Interim TACs
The following interim Total Allowable Catches have been approved for the 2017/18 fishing season which opens October 1, 2017:

SPA 1A: 200t
SPA 1B: 150t
SPA 3: 100t
SPAs 4 & 5: 125t

Management Measures

The current Inshore Scallop fishery for SPAs 1-6 is managed through the Conservation Harvesting Plan. Additional information can be found in the current Inshore Scallop Integrated Fisheries Management Plan.
