16 Pacific Chinook Salmon – West Coast of Vancouver Island* By end of 2024-2025 The Minister of Fisheries and Oceans has approved a 12-month extension to complete the rebuilding plan for this stock as permitted in s. 70(3) of the Fishery (General) Regulations. DFO Science chaired a Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat process to complete a Fisheries Science Advice Report in April 2024, with results expected in summer 2024. This peer reviewed document will include key advice on stock status, trends, probable causes of decline and reference points to aid in the development of the rebuilding target and other objectives. Engagement with First Nations on objectives and management measures is ongoing. The rebuilding plan, developed jointly with West Coast Vancouver Island First Nations is expected to be completed by the new deadline in April 2025.
17 Pacific Herring Haida Gwaii (Pacific QCI)* By early 2024-2025 The final rebuilding plan was approved by the Minister in April 2024. It will be published in summer 2024. Stock is in the cautious zone and no rebuilding plan required.
