Shellfish Monitoring Network
PARR-2008-G-03
Description
The Shellfish Monitoring Network (SMN) has been identified in the ‘Habitat Management Qualitative Risk Assessment: Water Column Oyster Aquaculture in New Brunswick' and the Replacement Class Screening (RCSR) on ‘Water column oyster aquaculture in New Brunswick' as a ongoing monitoring tool to provide baseline information of shellfish productivity so as to provide an indication of ecosystem effects if significant changes, outside of the natural variability, are observed. This project will focus on the consolidation of the data collected through the SMN into a database and elaboration of a data management plan for an ongoing monitoring scheme; an analysis of the strengths and weakness of the present SMN in the context of the RCSR requirements; and finally the design of a SMN that would meet the requirements of the RCSR.
