Report harmful impacts to fish and fish habitat
Harmful impacts to fish and fish habitat can result from works, undertakings or activities in or near water which could potentially violate:
- the fish and fish habitat protection and pollution prevention provisions of the Fisheries Act, by
- impeding the free passage of fish or the protection of fish and fish habitat (section 34.3);
- killing fish, other than by fishing (subsection 34.4(1));
- harmfully altering, disrupting or destroying fish habitat (subsection 35(1)); or
- depositing a deleterious substance in waterbody frequented by fish (subsection 36(3));
- the prohibitions provisions of the Aquatic Invasive Species Regulations, by
- importing, possessing, transporting or releasing aquatic invasive species (sections 6, 7, 8 and 9); or
- introducing non-indigenous aquatic species (section 10);
- the prohibitions provisions of the Species at Risk Act, by
- killing, harming, harassing, capturing or taking an individual of an aquatic species at risk (subsection 32(1));
- damaging or destroying the residence of an aquatic species at risk (subsection 33(1)); or
- destroying any part of the critical habitat of an aquatic species at risk (subsection 58(1)).
Report a potential violation of the Fisheries Act, the Aquatic Invasive Species Regulations or the Species at Risk Act using the below contacts.
