United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals

In September 2015, Canada and 192 other United Nations member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The 2030 Agenda is a 15-year global framework centered on an ambitious set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Government of Canada works with partners and stakeholders to advance the 2030 Agenda through concrete actions on the 17 SDGs. The 2022-2026 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) sets out the Government of Canada's sustainable development priorities, establishes goals and targets, and identifies actions to achieve them.

The 2023-2027 Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS) describes Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard’s objectives and plans for sustainable development appropriate to its mandate. It captures the Department's contributions towards the goals and targets of the FSDS and the 17 SDGs of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, as well as the application of strategic environmental assessments.
