Notice to fish harvesters: Opening of the Greenland Halibut Fixed-Gear Competitive Fishery in NAFO Division 0B

June 20, 2022

Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Arctic Region advises that the Greenland Halibut fixed-gear competitive fishery for NAFO Division 0B will open at 06:00 EDT on June 27, 2022.

The competitive quota for the 2022 season is 900t

Please be advised that catches from vessels that have been fishing in 0B prior to the opening of the 0B competitive fishery (and while on the same fishing trip) will be counted against the competitive fishery Total Allowable Catch (TAC) no sooner than 06:00 EDT on June 29, 2022, 48 hours after the fishery opening date. Any catch pulled prior to the 48 hours will be counted against a Special Allocation or Enterprise Allocation, or covered via a temporary quota transfer from a Special Allocation or Enterprise Allocation. Licence holders are required to ensure that their vessel operators are aware of this provision.

Fish harvesters are reminded that the licence holder or vessel operator is required to contact one of the designated at-sea observer corporations during regular office hours at least 24 hours prior to the vessel’s departure (or the “Just Talk” hail-out system if based in the Maritimes Region), as per your conditions of licence. If an at-sea observer is required for your trip, the licence holder or vessel operator must not depart from port until the at-sea observer is on board the vessel.
