2019 snow crab - Southeastern Nova Scotia (Crab Fishing Areas 23 and 24E)

Area

The Maritimes Region South Eastern Nova Scotia snow crab fishery occurs in Crab Fishing Area (CFA) 23 and the Eastern portion of CFA 24 to Pennant Point, Nova Scotia, as defined by the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985 (Schedule XI).

Dates of season

Fishing in CFA 23 and 24 is open from April 1st to August 31st, 2019

Total allowable catch

In both CFA 23 and CFA 24E, the total allowable catch (TAC) was increased by 10% from the 2018 levels. This increase returns the TACs to near the levels fished in 2017. This increase is consistent with science advice from the annual peer reviewed stock assessment, and corresponds to a target harvest rate within the approved harvest control rules for this stock when in the Healthy Zone.

The 2019 TAC in CFA 23 is 3,604 t. The 3,604 t TAC for 2019 also includes an allocation of 335.21 t to be used to contribute funds for the annual snow crab survey, under Section 10 of the Fisheries Act.

  • CFA 24

The 2019 TAC in CFA 24 is 3,059 t. The 3,059t for 2019 also includes an allocation of 284.56 t to be used to contribute funds for the annual snow crab survey, under Section 10 of the Fisheries Act.
