Lobster Fishing Area 3 – 14C: Newfoundland and Labrador Region 2023-2025

Season dates

Season dates will continue to be determined based on the established process for industry input. Once decisions are made on specific opening dates they will be communicated via Notice to Fish Harvesters.

Management measures

The management approach supports sustainability of the Lobster resource. This includes a continuation of current management measures, including: voluntary v-notching program, mandatory logbooks, closed areas for conservation, no changes to established trap limits and maximum number of fishing days, and minimum size retention limit of 82.5 mm in all Lobster Fishing Areas.

In response to concerns about the effect of Scallop dragging on Lobster and sensitive Lobster habitat, all current closures in place for commercial Scallop dragging will remain in effect. The Department will create a working group of 3Ps (Fortune Bay) Scallop and Lobster harvesters with the mandate of developing management measures for the Scallop fishery that will protect lobster and lobster habitat.
