2024 herring fishery (Maritimes Region) – Offshore Scotian Shelf (Outer Banks) spawning component

The Offshore Scotian Shelf (Outer Banks) herring fishery occurs in an area east of the Baccaro Point line and outside the 25 mile closure area along the coast of Nova Scotia in Herring Fishing Area 20.

Dates of season (subject to change)

The current herring fishery operates from January 1 to December 31. Closed times for specific gear types in this area can be found in Schedule VII Item 20 of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985.

Total allowable catch

The 2024 total allowable catch (TAC) is 4,000 tonnes.

Management measures

The Atlantic herring fisheries are managed under the Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP).
