2024 herring fishery (Maritimes Region) – Georges Bank (5Z) spawning component
The Georges Bank herring fishery occurs in the offshore portion of Herring Fishing Area 20, also located within Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization subarea 5Z.
Dates of season (subject to change)
The current herring fishery operates from January 1 to December 31. Closed times for specific gear types in this area can be found in Schedule VII Item 20 of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985.
Total allowable catch
The 2024 total allowable catch (TAC) is 1,000 tonnes.
Management measures
The Atlantic herring fisheries are managed under the Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP).
