This is a one-year management plan for 2024.

Total Allowable Catch

A commercial fishery for Northern cod is established for the 2024 season, with a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 18,000 tonnes (t).

This TAC is distributed in accordance with the percentage shares in the table below, and allocations in the table include Northern cod caught from the directed fishery and/or bycatch. The table contains three columns. The first column lists the fleet or group. The second column lists the percentage share for each fleet or group from the TAC. The last column specifies the associated allocation for each fleet or group. The last row identifies the TAC.

The 6.66 per cent share of the TAC is distributed equally between the Nunatsiavut Government and the Innu Nation. A special allocation of 3.33 per cent is provided to the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC).

From the inshore sector allocation of 15,071.4 t, 20 per cent (3,014.28 t) is provided for 2J-based inshore harvesters.

Management measures

Details on the management measures (e.g. open and close dates, weekly limit amounts, etc.) will be included in the fleet-specific Conservation and Harvesting Plans (CHP) that will be finalized through consultations with fleet representatives.
