The offshore commercial whelk fishery in the Maritimes Region occurs in 4Vs of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO).
Dates of season (subject to change)
The fishing season for offshore whelk operates from the first Monday in June to December 31.
Total allowable catches (TACs)
The annual total allowable catch for the fishery is 700 t.
Management measures
The control measures include:
- Entry limited to 1 licence
- 7-month fishing season
- Trap limit of 1500 per licence
- Minimum landing size
- Areas closed to fishing
