2025 the 2nd International Fishing Gear Innovation Summit

Canada will host the 2nd International Fishing Gear Innovation Summit on February 25-26, 2025 in Moncton, New Brunswick. Over 2 days, we will bring together harvesters, technical experts, Indigenous partners, academia, and representatives from non-governmental and governmental organizations. We will evaluate technological solutions, both immediate and long-term, aimed at minimizing the risk of large whale entanglements and explore technologies, strategies, and initiatives designed to prevent, reduce, retrieve and responsibly dispose of ghost gear.

2020 Gear Innovation Summit

The Gear Innovation Summit took place in Halifax in February 2020 and included a trade show focused on technological solutions and industry innovation to mitigate ghost gear. The Summit provided an opportunity for harvesters, technical experts, and non-government and government agencies, to share information and learn about innovative technologies and programming aimed at the prevention, reduction, and retrieval of ghost gear and reducing the impact of fishing activities on marine mammals.
