Data checklist

Use this data checklist to determine if your data sets can be added to Canada's Marine Planning Atlas. This checklist will then be evaluated and assessed by marine spatial planning (MSP) experts. We will notify you once a decision has been made.

Data requirements
  Check yes Notes
Relevance to MSP
Does the dataset tie into one of the categories of the MSP Key Questions (See Appendix A.)?
Would the data fall under one of the foundational categories in the atlas? Which data layer theme does it fall under?
*If unknown, our experts will review.

How do you see this data being used to inform MSP? (Please add details in the notes.)
Data quality and completeness
Is the data still considered current? (Please add to notes- frequency of data review or update, to ensure it reflects current use.)
Has the data been peer reviewed or validated through an accredited process, expert or by a third party? (Please add details in the notes.)
Is the spatial resolution fine? resulting in at least 0-50m?
*If unknown, our experts will review.

Are 4 or more variables represented in the data?
Publication and ownership
Is the data publicly available, or in process to be published (Please add to notes- expected publication date, if known)?
Do you own or have the right to publish this data? (Please add to notes- rights of ownership, data sharing agreement)
*Please add to notes- WMS data link.

Has metadata been developed for this dataset? Is there additional documentation for this dataset? (Please add details in the notes.)
Spatial and temporal extent
Does the data apply to both Atlantic and Pacific Coast atlases?
*Datasets that only cover one ocean are not necessarily excluded.

Does the data have a spatial coverage of multiple regions/provinces?* (Put in the notes a description of the coverage)
*Datasets that only cover one region are not necessarily excluded.

What is the temporal coverage of the dataset? Is this time-series data?
*If you are unsure, experts will review the data for temporal coverage.
