Third party liability insurance

Overview

Our Small Craft Harbours (SCH) program purchases third party liability insurance for all harbour authorities (HAs) and other organizations that have a signed lease or management agreement with SCH. The insurance provides protection to the HA if a claim is made against it for accidental loss of life, bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by third parties. This insurance does not cover third party incidents at other DFO-owned harbours, namely those that are not managed by HAs. DFO is self-insured at those harbours. The SCH program is responsible for the renewal and administration of this policy on their behalf since DFO is also named as insured on the policy. The insurance policy is renewed annually in April. SCH client service officers can provide HAs with a copy of the insurance policy on request.
