I respect it because I was born a fisherman. And that’s all I really stuck to all my life, involved in the fishing industry. My father was a fisherman, my brothers are fishermen, my son is a fisherman and there are a lot of good people in that industry.

In the evening, we prepare for the next day’s fishing. What we do is put our bait aboard, then we check our fuel, check our safety equipment like the PFDs, the fire extinguishers, then in the morning all we have to do is go down, start it up and go.

You know, from the industry’s perspective, we find the weather reports can be very unpredictable, so you have to be prepared when you’re at sea and know what’s going on. You best respect the ocean because it doesn’t respect you.

Measuring lobsters at the rail, they have to be 3¼ inches to be legal size, anything that’s not you throw it back. Any bearing females that carry eggs you have to release with the least harm as possible.

We have a high quality, sustainable product, and it’s governed under the MSC. We always want to work with science. I’m part of the science committee and we always want to work with the industry and we always want to work together and if we see a problem, we’ll correct it.

I like our industry and I like the way it’s being run. It feels real good that I’ve done a good job.

At the end of the day, I just can’t wait to get home and have a good meal and lay down and have a rest.
