Data to Decision of Fisheries Science

Transcript

Every day we work to make sure that Canada’s fisheries are managed sustainably.

This means that fisheries can be maintained over the long term, for the benefit of both current and future generations.

At Fisheries and Oceans Canada, we use the Data to Decision process to help us promote sustainable fisheries, going from data collection, to stock assessment, to science advice, and finally fisheries management decisions.

We go to sea to collect information about the fish populations we depend on….

…and then come back to shore to analyze it.

Only once we understand the data can our scientists provide the advice and recommendations needed to make evidence-based decisions about the fisheries that give us…

… food

… jobs

…and meaning.

The same fisheries that we are connected to socially and culturally.

Data to decision means ensuring the latest information is available to sustainably manage our fisheries.
