Fisheries Management Decision

Transcript

The Department makes decisions - like how or when to open and close fisheries, what catch quotas should be, or what size fish can be caught - after we’ve considered the Science Advice and other sources of information.

That’s why “Decision” is the last step of the “Data to Decision” process.

Science Advice is just one piece of the puzzle in supporting evidence-based decision-making and sustainable fisheries. We take this advice and consult with groups that depend on our oceans like…

…Indigenous communities…

…fishing industry members…

…environmental non-governmental organizations…

and coastal communities.

We gather all of this information, year after year, so we can make decisions with the latest and best available advice. This way, we can protect and sustainably manage our fisheries for generations to come.
