Wrap-up video from the Fifth International Marine Protected Areas Congress

Learn about IMPAC5 – the Fifth International Marine Protected Areas Congress - that brought some of the world’s best and brightest minds in ocean conservation to Canada.

Transcript

Held in Vancouver, Canada, the Host First Nations; Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh, in partnership with the Government of Canada, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, and the Province of British Columbia, all welcomed attendees including youth, Indigenous Peoples, ocean conservation professionals and officials from around the world.

They all came to learn from local and international Indigenous leaders, to share ideas and innovative solutions, to address biodiversity loss and global climate change, and to collaborate on marine protection efforts.

International decision-makers charted a course to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030. This commitment will support a sustainable blue economy and help to ensure healthy oceans for future generations. Thank you to the attendees, speakers, and organizers for joining us in Canada.
