Canadian and International Scallop Aquaculture: Current Status and R&D Challenges

Description

The Aquaculture Association of Canada (AAC) will organize a workshop to disseminate and exchange knowledge of the scallop species and discuss and prioritize aquaculture scallop research, particularly those of commercial interest in Halifax on May 16, 2007.

The objectives of the workshop / strategy session are:

  1. Bring various international experts, researchers, scientists, industry and government officials together in a forum to discuss research needs to support the sustainability of the industry;
  2. Identify enabling technologies adaptable to Canadian conditions, methods for spat procurement, grow out equipment, potential markets in order to determine scallop research priorities for the Canadian industry;
  3. Promote and establish better communications between the industry, researchers and government.
