Optimization of growth performance in intensively cultured Wolf Eels (Anarrhichthys ocellatus)

P-11-01-002

Description

The Wolf Eel has been identified as a candidate for commercial aquaculture in BC. Recently, it has been demonstrated that Wolf Eel reproduction can be manipulated with the use of hormone implants, which will aid tremendously in the development of broodstock programs and production timelines. At this point however, there still remain some basic husbandry questions that need to be addressed. The objective of this research is to determine:

  1. What is the optimal feeding regime and ration to achieve maximum specific growth rate in combination with maximum feed conversion ratio?
  2. What is the optimal rearing tank design and density to eliminate aggression and cannibalism, while maintaining maximum growth performance?
