2004 Rendez-vous de l'industrie maricole (symposium)

Q-04-01-002

Description

This project involved a symposium that was held in the Magdalen Islands from February 24 to 27, 2004. The purpose of this symposium, attended by all shellfish culture companies, as well as by the main shellfish culture stakeholders, was to inform the participants and provide opportunities for discussions about the constraints and problems associated with the various types of culture operations and about solutions and progress being made in techniques and technologies for each of these types of culture operations.

The symposium included "technology transfer" days, designed to benefit as many stakeholders as possible. The formula was slightly different from past years, with new shellfish culture developments being presented. The first day dealt with aspects relating to soft-shell clam culture, the second day was devoted to mussels, the next day and a half was devoted to scallops and the last half day was devoted to a discussion of more general topics, such as invasive species and the next shellfish culture strategic plan. The event also provided an opportunity to take part in a culinary evening consisting of a tasting of shellfish products accompanied by local land-based Magdalen Islands products.
