Aquaculture-environment interactions: productivity and critical threshold, coordination, dissemination and networking
Q-05-09-001
Description
The purpose of this project is to promote greater collaboration among researchers in the field of aquaculture-environment interactions and to disseminate the results of research projects under way. Specifically, the project is divided into three components:
- determining the critical threshold in terms of the quantity of mussels that will not impact the benthic environment of the lagoons of the Magdalen Islands;
- describing the impact of mussel farming on the productivity of the lagoons of the Magdalen Islands; and
- organizing a special workshop on the interactions between aquaculture and the environment during the international Benthic Ecology Meeting to be held in Quebec City in March 2006 with special emphasis on the work that is being conducted in Quebec.
This last component would put the research group's work into context and promote regional, national and international dissemination of the research findings.
