Limit Reference Points for Atlantic Salmon Rivers in Salmon Fishing Areas 15 to 18, DFO Gulf Region

Regional Science Response Process – Gulf Region

Feburary 8, 2018
Moncton, New Brunswick

Chairperson: Wayne Fairchild (DFO Gulf Region)

Context

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Ecosystems and Fisheries Management Branch asked DFO Science to develop reference points for Atlantic Salmon that conform to “A fishery decision-making framework incorporating the Precautionary Approach” (DFO 2009). The first step in the process is the definition of Limit Reference Points. DFO (2015) provided advice on the development of Limit Reference Points (LRP) for Atlantic Salmon that conform to the Precautionary Approach.

Objective

The objective of the meeting is to review the Limit Reference Point (LRP) values proposed for the Atlantic Salmon rivers in Salmon Fishing Areas 15 to 18 of DFO Gulf Region. The LRP values are based on advice previously published in DFO (2015) and the modelling approach described by Chaput et al. (2015). The science advice should include a description of the river-specific information used to define the LRPs, provide a table(s) of river-specific LRP values, and include a section on knowledge gaps and uncertainties.
