Update of Stock Status Indicators for Lobsters in Quebec’s Coastal Waters
Regional Science Response Process – Quebec Region
March 11, 2022
Virtual meeting
Chairperson: Charley Cyr
Context
The assessment of lobster stocks in Quebec’s coastal waters is conducted every three years, with some exceptions, and the last assessment took place in March 2019. An assessment was planned for the winter of 2022, but due to unforeseen circumstances, this full assessment will not be conducted. In order to inform fisheries management on the main indicators of the status of lobster stocks in the different areas of Quebec, an update of the status of lobster stocks has been requested.
Objectives
Update the various monitoring indicators for lobster stocks in Quebec’s coastal waters. This update will include:
- Landings for each of the fishing areas
- Catch per unit effort (CPUE) from the commercial fishery
- Update of the status of the Gaspé and Magdalen Islands stocks in relation to the reference points
Expected Publication
- Science Response
Expected Participation
- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) (Science and Resources management sectors)
