Current otolith research

We're currently working on projects in our laboratory and in collaboration with other scientists or laboratories. These include:

  • age-structured dynamics of Arctic freshwater fish
  • otolith microstructure of various species, including:
    • trout
    • salmon
    • grayling
  • exploration of novel trace elements as mass markers
  • stable oxygen isotopes for reconstructing temperature
  • statistical model for age estimation based on otolith weight and morphology
  • elemental fingerprinting and stock identification of species such as Icelandic cod
  • trace element composition of the carbonate and proteinaceous fractions of otoliths
  • age validation and preparation of growth models using bomb radiocarbon for species such as:
    • cusk
    • jurel
    • merluza
