Current otolith research
We're currently working on projects in our laboratory and in collaboration with other scientists or laboratories. These include:
- age-structured dynamics of Arctic freshwater fish
- otolith microstructure of various species, including:
- trout
- salmon
- grayling
- exploration of novel trace elements as mass markers
- stable oxygen isotopes for reconstructing temperature
- statistical model for age estimation based on otolith weight and morphology
- elemental fingerprinting and stock identification of species such as Icelandic cod
- trace element composition of the carbonate and proteinaceous fractions of otoliths
- age validation and preparation of growth models using bomb radiocarbon for species such as:
- cusk
- jurel
- merluza
