Conditional Management Plan summary for Saint Andrews, New Brunswick

This document provides a description of the shellfish growing area that is managed under a Conditional Management Plan (CMP) for Saint Andrews (NB). It also describes the detection, notification and response (DNR) times needed for parties to fulfill their CMP roles when sewage is discharged from the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) system. 

Detection, notification and response

The time taken for a sewage discharge to be detected, and for stakeholders and authorities to receive notification of the discharge is:

• within 4 hours during normal working hours
• within 12 hours outside of normal working hours

The time taken for federal authorities to respond to the sewage discharge by officially closing an affected shellfish area is:

• within 1 business day of receiving notification

Area classification description

Shellfish harvest areas near the WWTP are divided into zones based on how intermittent sewage discharge from the WWTP will impact the sanitary quality of the water. Harvesting activities in these zones are classified as either:

• prohibited
• restricted
• conditionally restricted
• conditionally approved

Conditionally approved

The portion of Passamaquoddy Bay inside of a line drawn from grid reference 45.06248 N, 67.02985 W to grid reference 45.07595 N, 67.08200 W at Joes Point, to grid reference 45.06522 N, 67.06501 W at Navy Island, and to grid reference 45.05449 N, 67.04316 W.

Area East of Saint Andrews

The portion of Passamaquoddy Bay inside of a line drawn from grid reference 45.08728 N, 67.04600 W at Katys Cove to grid reference 45.08700 N, 67.02914 W, to grid reference 45.07876 N, 67.02934 W, and to grid reference 45.07893 N, 67.03932 W.

Conditionally approved

The portion of Passamaquoddy Bay inside of a line drawn from grid reference 45.08728 N, 67.04600 W at Katys Cove to grid reference 45.08700 N, 67.02914 W, to grid reference 45.10073 N, 67.04629 W, and to grid reference 45.09926 N, 67.05430 W.
