Assistant Commissioner Wade Spurrell
Assistant Commissioner, Atlantic Region
Wade Spurrell was appointed Assistant Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), Atlantic Region, in October 2014. As the Assistant Commissioner, he is responsible for all CCG activities, including the provision of a wide range of services to the marine community and Canadians in general. The CCG Atlantic Region encompasses the four Atlantic Provinces – Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, with regional headquarters located in St. John’s, NL.
Wade has worked with DFO and CCG in various capacities since 1979 starting as a Seaman on the CHS Baffin in the Maritimes Region. He held progressively senior positions at sea and finally served as the commanding officer on various vessels including the CCGS Wilfred Templeman, the CCGS Leonard J. Cowley, the CCGS Cape Roger; and the CCGS Cygnus. In 2000, he accepted the position of Director of Operations in the Newfoundland and Labrador Region where he was responsible for the fleet operations. After leading a CCG-wide A-base Review in 2006, he was appointed as Assistant Commissioner of the Central and Arctic Region and as such was responsible for all CCG activities of the Great Lakes and Canadian Arctic. In 2012, Wade was appointed Director General of Operations, National Capital Region, responsible for the fleet and operational component of all CCG programs.
