Arran McPhersonA/Assistant Deputy Minister, Ecosystems and Oceans Science

Dr. Arran McPherson is currently the Acting Assistant Deputy Minister of Ecosystems and Oceans Science (EOS), a position she has held since July 2017. In that capacity, Arran is responsible for science programs to support regulatory decision making and policy development in Canada’s oceans and freshwater including the activities of the Canadian Hydrographic Service, which prepares and disseminates nautical data and charts. She has been with DFO since 2002 and has held various positions within the Department in both the national capital region in the Science Sector and in regional operations and policy development (Maritimes Region). Arran is the co-chair of the Ocean Research in Canada Alliance (ORCA) and participates in numerous government wide science fora, on behalf of the Department; she also represents Canada in a number of international organizations, including the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, Galway Trilateral Implementation Committee and is a GiC appointed member of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea.
