Commissioner Jeffery Hutchinson
Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard
Jeffery Hutchinson was appointed to the position of Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard effective March 13, 2017.
Jeffery joined the Canadian Coast Guard in 2013 as Director General, National Strategies, and Director General, Integrated Business Management Services at the National Headquarters of the Canadian Coast Guard.
Jeffery was subsequently named Deputy Commissioner, Strategy and Shipbuilding in 2015 prior to accepting his nomination as Commissioner.
Jeffery has a proven track record of fostering innovation within the public service. While he was the Executive Director of the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat, the organization tripled the rate at which claims were being processed, and introduced new procedural options for claimants. Previous to this, he participated in remodelling the Specific Claims process, modernizing labour relations within the Department of Justice, and supporting the achievement of the historic Residential Schools Settlement. As an Executive Director at Treasury Board Secretariat, he helped departments achieve operational savings in the hundreds of millions of dollars while preserving front line services to Canadians.
