Regional Director General Mary-Ellen Valkenier

Regional Director General, Maritimes Region

Mary-Ellen Valkenier was appointed to the position of Regional Director General, Maritimes Region of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) on September 5, 2017.

Mary-Ellen joined DFO in 2016, and held the position of Associate Regional Director General, where she led the delivery of Communications, Policy and Economics, Human Resources, Small Craft Harbours, and Real Property, Safety and Security for the Maritimes Region, as well as overseeing the Region’s financial operations. Mary-Ellen has held several executive level positions in the federal government and has significant experience in negotiating and managing bilateral and multilateral agreements with provinces, non-government organizations, municipalities and other organizations.

Mary-Ellen has over 30 years of experience in the federal public service, with Industry, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. She has worked in Ottawa, Toronto, Montréal, and Halifax.
