A/Regional Director General Scott Gilbert
A/Regional Director General, Central and Arctic Region
Earlier this year, Scott Gilbert assumed the role of Acting Regional Director General in Central and Arctic Region for Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Central & Arctic Region is the largest of DFO’s regions and encompasses Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. On behalf of the Government of Canada, DFO is responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs in support of Canada’s scientific, ecological, social and economic interests in oceans and fresh waters.
In 2011, Scott was appointed to the position of Regional Director, Fisheries Management, Central and Arctic Region where he managed the Conservation and Protection, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management programs.
Scott’s career with Fisheries and Oceans Canada began in 1986 when he became a Fishery Guardian. From there, he has held several roles of increasing responsibility, from Fishery Officer and Field Supervisor in various locations in the Pacific and Central and Arctic Regions from 1991 to 2001, to Chief Recruitment Training and Standards in Central and Arctic Region from 2004 to 2006. He was promoted to the position of Director, Conservation and Protection in 2006. Scott was in the Regional Director, Fisheries Management role on acting basis until he was indeterminately appointed.
