Proceedings of the Assessment Framework Workshop on Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence Snow Crab (Areas 12, E, F and 19) Gulf Regional Advisory Process; 11-14 October 2005

Chairperson: R. O’Boyle

Abstract

The assessment of the Gulf of St. Lawrence snow crab resource has been based upon geospatial statistical analyses of the summer survey information for a number of years. This approach has also been used when responding to management questions that have arisen from time to time. A number of issues have been raised in regards to the technical details of not only the post-survey treatment of the data but also of the survey design (e.g. boundary conditions). The current meeting afforded an opportunity for experts on these topics to discuss the issues and recommend both shorter-term solutions and longer – term research activities.
