Proceedings of a National Science Advisory Process to Review the Marine Component of the 2010 Ecosystem Status and Trends Report (ESTR); 1-4 December 2009
Chairperson: P. Simon
Editors: A. White and R. Smith
Summary
A national science advisory process was held 1-4 December 2009 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Montreal, Quebec. The purpose of the meeting was to identify the key findings, emerging issues, and knowledge gaps for each of the nine marine ecozones of the 2010 Ecosystem Status and Trends Report (ESTR). The main working papers submitted at this peer review were technical reports compiling existing information on the status, trends, drivers, and stressors of each of the Canadian marine ecozones.
The participants considered the technical reports, identified and agreed on key findings, emerging issues, and knowledge gaps for each of the marine ecozones. In addition, participants determined the recurring themes among the marine ecozones, as well as any linkages to the terrestrial ecozones.
A total of 13 participants from various Regions of DFO Science, Environment Canada, and the Canadian Healthy Oceans Network (CHONe) attended this advisory process. These proceedings summarise the discussions at the meeting; the science advice is provided in the Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat (CSAS) Science Advisory Report . The information issued from this advisory process represents the science basis on which Canadian policy regarding the status and trends of Canadian marine ecosystems could be based.
