Proceedings of the Quebec Region Science Advisory Process on the Assessment of Habitat Quality and Habitat Use by Copper Redhorse – part 2; March 18, 2010

Chairpersons: Charley Cyr and Hugues Bouchard
Editor: Sonia Dubé

Summary

A Regional Science Meeting was held on March 18th, 2010 in Montreal. This meeting included representatives from the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune du Québec (MNRF), Environment Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). The meeting was intended to finalize the science advisory report on the designation of critical habitat for the copper redhorse undertaken in 2009, while considering the DFO guidelines on habitat use of species at risk and quantifying habitat quality (DFO 2007). The science advisory report is intended to support the recovery process initiated under the Canadian Species at Risk Act (SARA) for the copper redhorse, designated "endangered" by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC). New information on copper redhorse habitat was obtained and added to the advisory report.
