Summary
These proceedings document the peer review process and the discussions specific to the Atlantic herring stock of NAFO Division 4VWX in eastern Canada which took place on March 17, 2008. The science review was conducted in response to a request for science advice from DFO Fisheries and Aquaculture Management (DFO FAM) for an assessment of the 4VWX herring management unit in support of the upcoming fishery. The 2008 assessment was conducted using the previously agreed assessment approach. There were 34 participants at the meeting including science personnel from the four Atlantic DFO regions, DFO FAM, members of the Fisheries Research Conservation Council, provincial governments, and the fishing industry and processors. The participants at the meeting reviewed the assessment documents, developed the stock status conclusions and advice, and reviewed the draft Science Advisory Report for Atlantic herring from this management unit.
