Stock status indicators and reference points consistent with a precautionary approach for northern shrimp in the Gulf of St. Lawrence

Abstract
This document presents the indicator that has been used to assess the resource status since the 2009 fishing season. The main indicator of the stock status is based on the abundance of males and females estimated from the commercial fishery and research survey. New reference points based on this indicator are proposed to delineate the stock status classification zones. These reference points will be used to develop a precautionary approach for managing of shrimp stocks in the Gulf.
