Context
Salmon fishing occurs annually throughout Nova Scotia. In support of the fishery, DFO Maritimes Fisheries and Aquaculture Management Branch requests Science Branch for an update of the resource status prior to developing the 2011 salmon fishing plan.
Objectives
- Assess the status of Atlantic Salmon stocks in Salmon Fishing Areas (SFAs) 19, 20, 21 and 23 up to the end of 2010, using the following indicators:
- adult abundance relative to reference levels
- parr densities
- smolt production estimates
- Provide information about hook and release mortality rates for recreational fisheries in eastern Cape Breton rivers.
