Update of Stock Status Indicators for Northern Shrimp, Pandalus borealis, and Striped Shrimp, Pandalus montagui, in the Western and Eastern Assessment Zones
Regional Science Response Process – Central and Arctic Region
January 2014
Winnipeg, MB
Chairperson: Kathleen Martin
Context
The status of Northern Shrimp (Pandalus borealis) and Striped Shrimp (Pandalus montagui) in the waters adjacent to Nunavut were assessed in February 2013 (DFO 2013). These species are assessed every two years. In the interim years, Resource Management asks for an update of the resource indicators to determine if major changes in the stock status warrant further consideration before the full assessment planned for February 2015 and to provide harvest advice for 2014.
Objectives
The objectives are to review the Northern Shrimp and Striped Shrimp indicators in the Eastern Assessment Zone and Western Assessment Zone as follows:
- Update landings
- Update biomass indices
- Update exploitation rate indices
- Update the precautionary approach framework
Expected Publications
- Science Response
