Update of Stock Status Indicators for Northern Shrimp, Pandalus borealis, and Striped Shrimp, Pandalus montagui, in the Western and Eastern Assessment Zones
Regional Science Response Process – Central and Arctic Region
January 2016
Winnipeg, MB
Chairperson: Kathleen Martin
Context
The status of Northern Shrimp (Pandalus borealis) and Striped Shrimp (Pandalus montagui) in the waters adjacent to Nunavut were assessed in February 2015 (DFO 2015). These species are assessed every two years. In the interim years, Resource Management asks for an update of the resource indicators to determine if major changes in the stock status warrant further consideration before the full assessment planned for February 2017 and to provide harvest advice for 2016.
Objective
The objectives are to review the Northern Shrimp and Striped Shrimp indicators in the Eastern Assessment Zone and Western Assessment Zone as follows:
- Update landings
- Update biomass indices
- Update exploitation rate indices
- Update the precautionary approach framework
Expected Publication
- Science Response Report
Participation
- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Science Sector
