Context

The most recent peer-reviewed assessment of Atlantic salmon of Salmon Fishing Areas 15 to 18 of DFO Gulf Region provided information up to and including the 2013 return year (DFO 2014). Monitoring at index rivers continues on an annual basis. Annual updates of Atlantic salmon adult returns and juvenile indices were provided for the 2014 and 2015 assessment years (DFO 2015a, 2015b, 2016). DFO Fisheries and Aquaculture Management Branch requested an update for 2016 of the adult returns and juvenile indices of Atlantic salmon to the index rivers in DFO Gulf Region.

Objectives

The objective of the meeting is to review the indicators of abundance of Atlantic salmon adult returns and juvenile indices in the index rivers of DFO Gulf Region in 2016.
