Context

The most recent peer-reviewed assessment of the Striped Bass (Morone saxatilis) population of the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence, DFO Gulf Region, provided information up to and including the 2010 spawning year (DFO 2011). Monitoring of the spawning population in the Northwest Miramichi has continued on an annual basis. Annual updates of spawner abundance and biological characteristics of the Striped Bass population were provided for the 2012 to 2016 spawning years (DFO 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). DFO Fisheries and Aquaculture Management Branch requested an update for 2017 of the spawner abundance and biological characteristics of the Striped Bass population of the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Objective

The objective of the meeting is to review the estimates of abundance and the biological characteristics of the Striped Bass spawning population of the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence in 2017.
