Proceedings of the Maritimes Region Science Advisory Process on the Assessment of Northern Shrimp on the Eastern Scotian Shelf; 4 December 2007

Chairperson: Tana Worcester

Summary

A Maritimes Region Science Advisory Process was conducted on 4 December 2007 at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, to assess the status of northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis) on the Eastern Scotian Shelf. Participation in this meeting included Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the New Brunswick Department of Fisheries, Aboriginal communities, and industry. This assessment concluded that with biomass expected to remain relatively high, the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of the last 2 years should be sustainable for 2008. However, it is expected that total and spawning stock biomass may decrease after 2008, with the rate of decline depending on the natural mortality and longevity of the 2001 year-class.
