Summary

A national science peer review by the National Marine Mammal Peer Review Committee (NMMPRC) was held on November 17 to November 20, 2008 in Nanaimo, British Columbia. NMMPRC meets annually to discuss and review various scientific studies related to marine mammals. The purpose of the meeting was to review fourteen research documents and provide science advice on Northwest Atlantic grey seals (Halichoerus grypus), Harp Seals (Pagophilus groenlandicus), freshwater harbour seal (Phoca vitulina mellonae), ringed seals (Phoca hispida) Pacific harbour seals (Phoca vitulina) Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus), eastern Arctic bowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus), Cumberland Sound belugas (Delphinapterus leucas) and the Recovery Potential for humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) in Pacific Region. This proceedings report summarizes the relevant discussions and presents the key conclusions reached at the peer review meeting.
