Standardisation de l'aire balayée par les traits de la mission d'été du Alfred Needler

By P. Gagnon

Abstract

The comparison of different methods for calculating the distance travelled by the sampling trawl on the A. NEEDLER reveals important differences between the sampled area as calculated by standard methods and the most reliable value. The sets performed at 300 m could have been as much as 55% longer than assumed. The new trawling protocol involving a fixed time interval before winch restart reduces these biasses without eliminating them completely.
