Patterns in the annual weight increment for 2J3KL cod and possible prediction for stock projections

By P.A. Shelton; G.R. Lilly; E. Colbourne

Abstract

Annual weight increment data for Div. 2J3KL cod are examined. A general linear model containing division and age effects explained 36% of the variance in the logarithm of annual weight increment. The residuals from this model had a temporal pattern which could in part be explained by variability in the area of the cold intermediate layer ( 00C). Consideration is given to whether a predictive model based on this relationship could be developed which would have utility in stock projections.
