Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO)
The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) is a regional fisheries management organization (RFMO) founded in 1979. NAFO's overall purpose is to help its members work together and share knowledge to effectively manage and conserve the high seas fishery resources of the Northwest Atlantic Ocean.
The Marine Environmental Data Section (MEDS) contributes to the knowledge of the environmental conditions of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) by acting as the specialized oceanographic data center for oceanographic data collected by its 17 member countries.
Reports
MEDS, as the Regional Environmental Data Center for NAFO, is required to provide an inventory of environmental data collected in the NAFO area annually to the NAFO subcommittee for the environment (STACFEN).
The reports include physical oceanographic inventories of profiles, drifting buoys, waves, tides and water levels.
