Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is seeking public input on new regulations for the possession and export of elvers. The information gathered through this engagement process will help DFO refine the proposed regulations and the methods to implement the regulations.

Who is the focus of this consultation?
The Government of Canada will engage with:
- Indigenous groups
- Persons involved in the buying of elvers harvested in Canada
- Persons involved in the export of elvers from Canada
- Persons holding a commercial fishing licence authorizing the capture of elvers
Key questions for discussion
Your ideas and input are sought around key questions:
- What is the expected impact of the possession licence on your activities within the elver supply chain?
- What is the expected impact of the possession licence on individuals or firms that you may work with to get elvers to market?
- What is the expected impact of the export licence on your activities within the elver supply chain?
- What is the expected impact of the export licence on individuals and firms you may work with to export elvers from Canada?
The input gathered through this process will be used to support the development of the proposed regulations as inform the scope of any conditions under the proposed possession and export licences.
